I also think it’s a nice misdirect, leading you to think that the entry will mean something along the lines of “admit ignorance,” but it’s just referring to the fact that when you say “I dunno,” you ELIDE the “t” of “I don’t know.”ģ9A. First, I like the repetition of the word “say,” functioning both as a verb and as the “comma say” signal that I’ve explained previously. I enjoyed the clue “Say ‘I dunno,’ say” for a couple of reasons. “Huggers” are not people who like hugs but rather the things those people use to give hugs: ARMS.Ģ0A. More about that twist below, but first let’s tackle some tough clues and entries. Of course, when the theme remains elusive until the very end, it can’t do much to help you crack the theme entries, but this is a trade-off I’m happy to make for a clever, surprising twist at the revealer. For me, this makes the puzzle that much more satisfying I love the feeling of a theme falling into place at the revealer. WEDNESDAY PUZZLE - Adam Aaronson’s ninth New York Times Crossword puzzle certainly elicits an “aha!” - the theme is a bit of a thinker and may not click until after the solve.
